Samsung CLP-300

Colour laser printing is now accessible to the home and small office user with the CLP-300, it offers colour laser printing on a budget coupled with some impressive specs. However, from the inkjet printer market we have learnt that a cheap printer doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a cheap printer in the long run, the manufacturer will usually make their money back through expensive printer cartridges. But this doesn’t seem to be the case with the CLP-300, Samsung CLP-300 toner cartridges cost about twice as much as the average set of inkjet cartridges but they print about 10 times as much. The Samsung toner cartridges consist of four individual colours (black, cyan, magenta, & yellow) each of which yield 1,000 pages except the black which yields 2,000 pages at 5% coverage. The printer itself is very compact which requires the cartridges to be an unusual design which enables all four to slide into the front of the photoconductor unit each one colour coded and uniquely shaped to only fit into its own socket. Print quality produced by the CLP-300 is very good, it excels at printing documents containing text only and also ones containing graphics, photo print however is not the CLP-300 strongest point but is ok for printing the odd photo now and gain but don’t expect lab quality. The all important print speed is also an impressive feature of the this printer and it gets very close to the official figures provided by Samsung of 16ppm printing text and 4ppm colour. In summary the Samsung CLP-300 seem to be a good buy and does what it set out to do which is bring good quality colour laser printing to the home and small office user.
